Gift Guide: For Her

Gift Guide 2017: Gifts for Her

Today, I am so excited to be sharing my first gift guide of the season and will be sharing  a bunch more over the next few weeks to hopefully help you check all the boxes on your shopping list. To kick off this year's gift guides, I'll be starting with one of my favorites: Gifts for Her. Between my mom and my 3 sisters, Christmas mornings my entire life have been pretty girl-centric, and their gifts are the things I look most forward to finding and buying. I've rounded up my top gifts for all the ladies on my list - girlfriend, sister, and mom approved - to share with you.

I think sweaters are a staple gift for women, so why not pick out a sweater with a little something extra? Like this ruffle sleeve sweater, perfect for your sister or BFF; it comes in cream and a pretty peach color and is super afforable at $49. I also love this ruffle sleeve tunic style sweater with elbow cut-out; its super unique, on-trend, and comes in olive and black too. Or if you are looking for something a little less trendy and more classic, maybe for mom, this is the perfect cardigan. It's an open-front circle-style cardigan and is made of the softest material ever, so luxurious!

Besides sweaters, jewelry tends to be a super popular gift for ladies year after year. Statement earrings are currently having a moment, so why not snag a few pairs of fun earrings. I am recommending these 2 pairs for 2 reasons. First, they are super light, so you can wear them all day without any discomfort. Second, they come in a TON of colors options! Both the pink and eggplant pairs are under $50 too. Looking for a next-level type gift for a special lady in your life? This wrap bracelet is perfect because the stone on the ends can be switched out with lots of gem options or the pearls shown to really personalize the piece.

Another popular gift idea for women are warm-weather accessories, like gloves, hats, and scarves. Treat the ladies on your list to a fabulous scarf a la this oversized, knit beauty in the perfect soft pink hue. If you have a plaid-lover like myself on your list, I definitely recommend this boucle plaid scarf in the navy and pink plaid. It will be so warm during the upcoming winter months and the color combo is gorgeous. If you are thinking your bestie has enough scarves, this pearl adorned beanie might be the perfect gift for her! Pearls are everywhere this season, and even though they are trendy, they are also very classic. I adore this beanie, and it comes in black too. Snag it quick its currently 30% off through Cyber Monday.

If you are a boyfriend or husband looking for the perfect gift for your lady, I have included some higher end suggestions too. Like this Chateau Parka by J.Crew, its a classic, comes in 5 colors, and will become her favorite for years to come. The quality is top notch, and they are currently 40% off, through Cyber Monday, (plus an extra 10% off until noon Cyber Monday with code: SHOPFAST) so shop quickly! Another good option is a designer handbag. For totes, I personally love Tory Burch, this pretty pink one with the tassel detail has stolen my heart. Plus, it's 30% through Cyber Monday with code THANKS. If your gal prefers a smaller bag, this Rebecca Minkoff crossbody is a classic, but in this velvet, its both chic and trendy too. I love this dark grey, but it comes in several other colors too. Snag 25% off orders of $100+ with code BLACK25 or 30% off orders of $250 with code BLACK30.

Know anyone taking a big trip next year? Milestone birthday, honeymoon, anniversary? Or just travels a lot for work? This chic spinner luggage duo can't be beat. Under $300 for both pieces, and available in 4 colors, this set is the perfect gift for a daughter who might be getting married next year. Hint, mom, hint. Not in the budget, no worries, snag this super affordable and incredibly gorgeous iphone case, so at least her phone can travel in style ;) I mean, that marble is swoon worthy, right?

Shopping for yourself? No judgement, I did too! I highly recommend snagging these OTK boots while the sale price is so freakin good! At over 50% off for Marc Fisher, you almost have to, right? Is your calendar littered with holiday parties from now until the new year? Snag these pretty strappy heels in this gorgeous blush velvet or one of 3 other colors, and dance your way to 2018 in them!

Happy Shopping!

Hot Cider & Sweater Weather

Can you ever go wrong with hot cider and a stroll through fall foliage? No. The answer is always no. There's just nothing better in my book! Every year we make the trip to Yates Cider Mill which is a historic mill along the Clinton River north of metro-Detroit. They press cider on site with locally grown apples and make a variety of baked goods. Our favorites are the cinnamon sugar coated donuts, so good!

SWEATER | DISTRESSED JEANS (more affordable option here) | BOOTS (regular and wide calf) | SUNNIES | FLOPPY HAT | PURSE (similar, mine is sold out) | EARRINGS

Along with hot cider and treats, our trips to Yates always include a walk on the nature trial along the river. Its usually a quite trip down a winding footpath through the trees and brush. K and I have been coming here since we started dating, at least once every fall. This trip we were able to stop by the spot where he proposed to me earlier this year. It brought back so many memories and will always hold an extra special place in my heart.

Even though it was a pretty warm October, the shade along the path made wearing this gorgeous pumpkin-y colored, bell-sleeve sweater perfectly comfortable. The wide scoop neck can also be worn off the shoulder, giving the sweater more versatility in styling. And, it comes in FIVE colors, including a bright red that would be so pretty for the holidays! Plus, its a total steal at only $39. I mean, how perfect would it be for Thanksgiving?!

My ripped jeans and knee-high suede boots are both worth investing in. The jeans are by Good American and hold everything in. The material is sturdy and thick, but not scratchy or uncomfortable. They have held up well to a wash and dry too. I can't recommend them enough!

In my hunt to find good knee-high boots that would last (I could only go through cheap boots that barely lasted one season for so long) I found the ones I was raving about earlier this week, posted here, as well as these ones. I wasn't planning on keeping them both, but the colors were different enough and they were both so comfortable and fit my wide calves perfectly, I kept them both. The tie detail on the back gives them that extra little spark and they are lined with super soft and warm material. I took my normal size and they fit perfectly. They are currently on sale for 25% off too, so that never hurts.

Hope you all enjoy your Thursday!

What to Wear to Thanksgiving

Today I'm sharing 6 different outfit ideas for you to wear to Thanksgiving dinner this week. The great news about all of them is that they can probably be created or re-imagined with pieces you already have in your closet! I have included links too just in case you want to ask Santa for any of these versatile pieces.

The first two options are variations of what I would call casual, preppy, and easy to wear outfits. I love this style of dressing, it's very fresh and clean in my opinion. Most of you probably have a pair of dark skinnies, brown boots or booties (depending on the temps of where you are at), a plaid shirt, sweater (again, depending on how cold your Thanksgiving weather is) and a quilted vest in your closet. I love mixing patterns with plaid, or don't be afraid to grab a leopard print scarf or fair isle sweater to pair with your plaid. Lastly, throw on one or two statement pieces of jewelry and you are good to go!

The next two outfits revolve around leggings, which I am convinced were created for Thanksgiving, so that we can comfortably eat our weight in turkey and pumpkin pie. One of my favorite things about leggings is how easy they are to style; they can be dressed up or down, with pretty much any shoe or boot, and with a dress, tunic, or any over-sized shirt that covers your bum. To create a more dressed down look, I paired leggings with a striped turtleneck & knit poncho, easy flats, and simple jewels all in a neutral palette. I added some visual interest with pop or red with a cozy beanie, tote, and plaid red with hints of red to tie everything together. This same strategy can be used with any color. To dress up leggings, I focused less on that pop of color, and more on playing with different textures; like a big knit turtleneck, floppy felt hat, faux fur vest, and suede over-the-knee boots, keeping the jewelry simple again, and the palette much more subtle.

The final two outfit ideas I am sharing are for dresses. While my family's Thanksgiving is more on the casual side, I know that some of you might be attending a dressier dinner or just prefer to dress up a little more for the holiday. One great thing about throwing on a dress is that in one piece you have an outfit, and pretty much anything goes with accessories. This time of year is perfect for wearing sweater dresses, they are super cozy and it's cold enough to wear tights with either a great pair of boots or booties (wear black tights and heeled black booties to give the illusion of super long stems). And of course, I am loving plaid shirt dresses, they are the perfect casual option and can be easily dressed up or down. Since my sweater dress option is a little dressier I opted to show a more casual styling of the plaid dress.

Friends and Fans Event at Tory Burch

When I received the Tory Burch email announcing their friends and fans sale this weekend of 25% off, I was so excited! I love a sale and have been mooning over quite a few of her pieces for awhile. Then, reality set in. I am a poor grad student. Sigh. For the time being, I need to be patient, because I don't have the money to invest in these gorgeous pieces I have been coveting for months. Easier said than done! Luckily, I graduate next May, which means then I will be an real life engineer, working full time, with all the fancy things having a career comes with. Until then however, I have lots of time to pine and carefully vet through all of the pieces I adore. I look at these items as investments and as timeless staples that I will use for many years. Because of this, I am most in love with neutral colors and classic shapes, that way I know they will be in style and last for a long time. Because of the price point, I also want to be able to get the most bang for my buck, which translates to versatile pieces mostly in tans and black. Some of the lust pieces (you know, the pieces I want, but am not entirely ready for a long term commitment with) are more seasonal colors and trends, such as the emerald satchel, plum clutch, and mustard patterned cross body. Also, since I plan on continuing to work downtown, I will be wearing flats and boots most of the year, totally justifying a pair or two of flats and boots ;-) And oh, have I have been drooling over the Keirnan riding boots! So, for now, I will be dreaming and that is fine with me, but for the sake of sharing my daydreams with you, I have compiled some of my favorite items from the sale.
