Casual Fridays: My Target Sale Picks

For today's Casual Friday Post, I don't have an outfit to share, eek! I'm sorry. This is partially because this week has been incredibly, insanely busy, but also because I really wanted a chance to share with you my favorite picks from the Target shoe and handbag sale. Yes, that's right ladies, Target. Where a package of t.p. ends up costing you $150. Our female genetic weakness. Combine that with shoes and bags, and I'm sure your male counterparts are headed as far away from you as possible.

Ok, so let's get down to business. This week is Target's buy one, get one 50% sale for handbags and purse, both in stores and online. Christmas come early this year ;-) Oh wait, I'm on a #noshoptilnovember challenge because of Target already...uh-oh. Please, please, please cross your fingers for me not to give in! So, even though I will be attempting to sit this sale out, I didn't want anyone else to miss out. Isn't that nice of me? You. Are. Welcome. =D

If I were to shop, it would be out of necessity. I am in desperate need of a new pair of black boots and I have found a pair or two that I love at Target. Four years ago I bought 3 pairs of boots from Target (during another sale, of course) and they are all still in pretty good condition (and remember I live in Michigan, so they have seen their fair share of inclement weather). That is why I don't mind getting my fashion boots from Target; they get the job done, are cute, and are definitely affordable (sorry Keirnan riding boots, maybe next year...), which is perfect for any fashionista on a serious budget. All the pairs of boots and flats on the list (I mean, who doesn't need a pair of leopard loafers, right??) come in at or under $40; so with the sale, you can get great footwear for fall without breaking the bank. Also, those suede lace up booties come in black, and they are simply divine! Swoon.

Target has also been hitting out of the park when it comes to handbags this year. I have the plum colored satchel below in cognac (seen here, here, and here) and love the rich purple hue as well. The mustard cross-body bag would also be perfect for fall and is a great option for those who missed out on the yellow Phillip Lim bags a few weeks ago. I am also loving the hounds-tooth printed wallet its so fun and unexpected, plus it will pop against any color bag. So many purses, so few arms to carry them all!

Preppy in Plaid

So, this is an outfit I wore last week and didn't have time to post. It was my first date with this gorgeous Phillip Lim for Target bag and I must admit, it was love at first sight! I have been searching for a new black purse for awhile now, and this one does not disappoint. I was lucky enough to get the medium satchel in both taupe and black in store and ordered the large carry-all tote with gusset in brown online. It was quite the shopping bender (and consequently forced me into my #noshoptilnovember challenge), but even after sobering up from my shopping high, I still have no regrets and love each bag.

Sweater: J.Crew Factory (cashmere option) / Cords: Old Navy (similar)
Plaid Shirt: J.Crew Factory (out online, check in store) (similar)  / Shoes: Target
Bag: Phillip Lim for Target (out online, check in store) (similar) / Necklace: c/o Our World Boutique
Spike Bracelet: Urban Peach Boutique / Tassel Bracelet: c/o Hawthorne Collection

The satchels, which I typically remove the straps from and carry on my arm, are the perfect size for me. Although I loved the black tote with gusset, but was it sold out in my store and online, which I took as a sign that I only needed the medium size. Plus, after seeing pictures of the larger bag with girls on instagram, I think it would have been too large to carry around in addition to all of my school related bags (computer, lunch, books, etc.). I am quite the bag lady these days and these new additions are perfect for my lifestyle. But I digress...

Anyways, this outfit features one of the plaid shirts I featured in yesterday's post, as well as a sweater, both from from J.Crew Factory. I picked up this soft sweater on major discount this summer ($12!!) and love the saturated hue. To off set the bold color of the sweater and print of the plaid, I chose a pair of grey skinny cords and black bag to complement, but not overshadow, them.

To finish off this preppy outfit, I added a some small pops of accent color with my cobalt flats, yellow rosette necklace and delicate bracelets. These cobalt flats have extra cushion inside of them and are probably the most comfortable pair I own, think walking on clouds. I have a few J.Crew inspired rosette necklaces, but this one is by far the easiest to wear.

Incorporating a bright necklace into a look is a fun way to transition from summer to fall without doing a complete closet 180. This yellow rosette necklace won't be hibernating this winter, no sir! Sidebar - ok, so I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but on a few of the necklaces I have ordered, the roses do not lay flat and constantly turn or flip over, which for an O.C.D., perfectionist, crazy person like myself, is maddening. Thankfully, the ladies over at Our World Boutique hooked me up with this yellow one, which lays flat with none of the roses falling bottoms up. I am amazed and grateful! Not that this is a surprise; I have been ordering jewelry from their online boutique since March and have loved every piece and every price (seriously you NEED to check them out!).

The last piece I want to talk about is this incredible tassel bracelet. It is the perfect shade of cobalt for the fall...and winter...and spring...see where I am going with this? I love the subtle class a tassel on a bracelet brings and how it can take an arm party to the next level. This fabulous piece from Hawthorne Collection does just that! I am sure it will be around a lot the next few months =)

So, I think that is all I wanted to say in regards to this fun preppy outfit. I can't wait to remix these pieces throughout the fall!

Did you snag any of Phillip Lim's Collection for Target pieces?

Wednesday Wants and Wishes: Mad for Plaid

Hello, my name is Ray and I'm a plaid-a-holic. I cannot help it! The print is everywhere this fall and I, for one, could not be more over the moon about it. I have owned a few soft flannel pieces in various plaids in the past, but this year it seems that plaid is on steroids; its everywhere! Everything and anything comes in plaid right now: dresses, plants, blazers, shoes, bags, you name it, there is a version of it in plaid (or several). My two favorite things about plaid are that it can be dressed up or down, and that it comes in so many colors and variations that there is a piece out there perfectly crafted for everyone. I think my love for Old Navy has been well documented, even in the short life of my blog, and they have a TON of great plaid patterns and colors in their collection this fall, all at affordable price points. I have also seen amazing plaid pieces popping up at Target, Forever 21, and J.Crew Factory. See? For everyone, at every price!

Although I am currently attempting a #noshoptilnovember which began the Monday after the Phillip Lim for Target craziness hit on September 15th, I have been crushing hard on some gorgeous plaid pieces and cannot wait to til I can add a few (cough...the Zara blanket scarf...cough) to my fall wardrobe. But seriously, how perfect is that scarf?? Whitley over at Simply Whit styled this scarf yesterday and I am swooning over it. Legitimately swooning, just ask my bf, he will inform you of how dramatic I can be ;-) The scarf is perfect; I am trying ever so hard not to cave and buy it immediately!

So here are my plaid picks for fall and I don't think how mad I am for plaid will be going away anytime soon!

My Fall Bucket List

This post is 100% inspired by pinterest. I LOVE pinterest. It is one of the greatest things ever invented. Seriously. I use it to for gathering recipes, clothing inspiration, hair and make up tips, DIY projects, and things I generally want to remember to do eventually, someday, probably (and grumpy cat memes of course!). If you don't follow me, please do, so I can follow you back! Anyways, there are so many things I see that I constantly think to myself, "I need to do this/make this immediately!" and then I pin that photo to remember it, and there it sits neglected as more things are pinned above it with the exact same intention...good job Ray.

Anyways, since I am crazy about planning, list making, and generally mapping out every moment of everyday, week, month, etc. I decided I should make a list to plan what I want to do this season and then pencil those things into the few free spaces in my planners (yes, I have two). Phew. Nothing is more exciting to me than outlining all of my tasks, figuring out when and how I will accomplish everything, and finally crossing out or checking things off of my meticulous lists as they are completed. That being said, it was with great joy that I composed my Fall Bucket List. It combined so many of my favorite things; Pinterest, list making, fall, and photos. I cannot wait to start crossing some of them off! Enjoy.

So, my list is clearly lacking a spooky element, no corn mazes or haunted houses or scary movies here. No, sir. That is because, well quite honestly, I am a a little sissy girl when it comes to that stuff. Even Hocus Pocus is bordering on too scary for me. Sorry! And I am beyond terrified of corn fields too...mazes or not. Secret Window, anyone? No thank-you! They give me the creeps. Add them to your own list, and leave me to the warm fuzzies of fall =)

First Day of Fall: Mustard, Plum, and Taupe

Happy Monday lovelies! I hope you had a great weekend. Mine was full of homework, cleaning, and lots of fall activities to ring in the official start of my FAVORITE season!! Seriously, I am sure you are all feeling the fall frenzy; the start of football, the change of the leaves, the crisp air, the return of the beloved pumpkin spice latte, and most of all bundling up in the rich colored and cozy textured clothing that define fall fashion. Here in the mitten, the weather has been teasing towards fall since August, which has been wonderful as the weather dipped into the 60's and frustrating when the temperature fluctuated up. Either way, it feels like fall has finally arrived and I could not be more happy.

One of my absolute favorite things to do in the fall is visit local cider mills and apple orchards. There is something about being outside, hot cider in hand, strolling through the woods, that just feels "right." Like all the stars have aligned to give you an amazing gift. Yesterday was definitely one of those days. The weather was overcast and cool, the river by the cider mill was bubbling and flowing briskly, the cider with hot and spiced, and I was wrapped up in my newest, coziest sweater as we explored the great outdoors.

For our first official fall excursion, I chose to wear my new Old Navy Rockstar Cords in California Plum, which just screamed fall to me, with tons of layers on top. I love the luxe color of these pants and decided to pair the rich purple with its complementary hue mustard, for a bold fall look. Mustard promises to be a must have color this fall, and I have seen many fabulous pieces in the color. I picked up this mustard tank from Target a few weeks ago, just to get my feel wet a little on the trend. Since the Mustard and plum are very strong colors, I chose to keep the rest of my accessories neutral, enter the taupe booties, tortoise necklace, leopard scarf, cognac bag, and taupe-y brown sweater. Finally, since the cider mill is off a river and we knew we'd be walking the adjacent trails, I grabbed my navy puffer vest to stay warm.

These were so comfy to walk in, highly recommend =)

I can't stop wearing this pave link bracelet from Hawthorne Collection!

Necklace - SassySteals (option) / Bracelet - c/o Hawthorne Collection (option
Scarf - Payless / Belt - Target / Booties - Old Navy

We headed to Yates Cider Mill in the late afternoon, after having brunch with my sister, heading to Michael's to get supplies for dressing my apartment up for fall, and doing some homework. It was a relaxing afternoon with my bf, spent walking the trails and snapping these photos, followed by hot cider and fresh cinnamon sugar donuts. During our walk, my light layers were comfy and kept me warm along the river. Overall, it was the perfect start to fall. Here are some other pics from my iPhone.

The leaves are already starting to change color!

At the cider mill!

Fresh cinnamon sugar donut, yum!

Hot apple ciders and donuts, plus a half gallon to go =)
