Casual Fridays: My Target Sale Picks

For today's Casual Friday Post, I don't have an outfit to share, eek! I'm sorry. This is partially because this week has been incredibly, insanely busy, but also because I really wanted a chance to share with you my favorite picks from the Target shoe and handbag sale. Yes, that's right ladies, Target. Where a package of t.p. ends up costing you $150. Our female genetic weakness. Combine that with shoes and bags, and I'm sure your male counterparts are headed as far away from you as possible.

Ok, so let's get down to business. This week is Target's buy one, get one 50% sale for handbags and purse, both in stores and online. Christmas come early this year ;-) Oh wait, I'm on a #noshoptilnovember challenge because of Target already...uh-oh. Please, please, please cross your fingers for me not to give in! So, even though I will be attempting to sit this sale out, I didn't want anyone else to miss out. Isn't that nice of me? You. Are. Welcome. =D

If I were to shop, it would be out of necessity. I am in desperate need of a new pair of black boots and I have found a pair or two that I love at Target. Four years ago I bought 3 pairs of boots from Target (during another sale, of course) and they are all still in pretty good condition (and remember I live in Michigan, so they have seen their fair share of inclement weather). That is why I don't mind getting my fashion boots from Target; they get the job done, are cute, and are definitely affordable (sorry Keirnan riding boots, maybe next year...), which is perfect for any fashionista on a serious budget. All the pairs of boots and flats on the list (I mean, who doesn't need a pair of leopard loafers, right??) come in at or under $40; so with the sale, you can get great footwear for fall without breaking the bank. Also, those suede lace up booties come in black, and they are simply divine! Swoon.

Target has also been hitting out of the park when it comes to handbags this year. I have the plum colored satchel below in cognac (seen here, here, and here) and love the rich purple hue as well. The mustard cross-body bag would also be perfect for fall and is a great option for those who missed out on the yellow Phillip Lim bags a few weeks ago. I am also loving the hounds-tooth printed wallet its so fun and unexpected, plus it will pop against any color bag. So many purses, so few arms to carry them all!

Wednesday Wants and Wishes: Mad for Plaid

Hello, my name is Ray and I'm a plaid-a-holic. I cannot help it! The print is everywhere this fall and I, for one, could not be more over the moon about it. I have owned a few soft flannel pieces in various plaids in the past, but this year it seems that plaid is on steroids; its everywhere! Everything and anything comes in plaid right now: dresses, plants, blazers, shoes, bags, you name it, there is a version of it in plaid (or several). My two favorite things about plaid are that it can be dressed up or down, and that it comes in so many colors and variations that there is a piece out there perfectly crafted for everyone. I think my love for Old Navy has been well documented, even in the short life of my blog, and they have a TON of great plaid patterns and colors in their collection this fall, all at affordable price points. I have also seen amazing plaid pieces popping up at Target, Forever 21, and J.Crew Factory. See? For everyone, at every price!

Although I am currently attempting a #noshoptilnovember which began the Monday after the Phillip Lim for Target craziness hit on September 15th, I have been crushing hard on some gorgeous plaid pieces and cannot wait to til I can add a few (cough...the Zara blanket scarf...cough) to my fall wardrobe. But seriously, how perfect is that scarf?? Whitley over at Simply Whit styled this scarf yesterday and I am swooning over it. Legitimately swooning, just ask my bf, he will inform you of how dramatic I can be ;-) The scarf is perfect; I am trying ever so hard not to cave and buy it immediately!

So here are my plaid picks for fall and I don't think how mad I am for plaid will be going away anytime soon!

Sequined Polks Dots, Leopard, and Army Green Skinnies

Cooler temps this past week have officially ushered in the season of layers to my wardrobe. I am a complete layer addict. As you may have figured from my post here on my grad school uniform last week, I typically wear 3+ layers all fall and winter long. This year I have been trying to break of out my typical affinity for black clothes by adding more colorful and patterned pieces to my closet. My Old Navy cash and frequent trips to Target have helped create a diverse army of clothing for this year and I must say, I am excited!

Today I am debuting my first outfit posts; please hold your applause until the end of the post ;-) My photographer, after much begging and bribing, is my wonderful boyfriend, who, bless his heart, knows nothing about fashion or photography. So I am appreciative of his efforts and hope you can look past the limitations of our point-and-shot camera. Also bare in mind that I am a rookie at this whole thing, am certainly no model, and I am doing this for fun! So here goes nothing =)

Sweater - Old Navy / Chambray (old) - Old Navy (similar, similar) / Pants - Old Navy
Shoes - Target / Purse - Target / Bracelet - c/o Hawthrone Collection

Today's outfit is a combination of a few pieces I received from Old Navy via mail yesterday and felt instantly inspired by. I think Old Navy has done a phenomenal job of creating pieces that work with almost everything else they make, which makes mixing their clothes easy and fun.

I, along with pretty much every other girl out there, love a chambray shirt. They are versatile, can be worn up or down, transition season to season, and are easy to wear. I paired my chambray tunic with this new crew sweater with sequined polka dots. You had me at sequined, and the polka dots are just a bonus. This is the perfect sweater, seriously, I dare you to find something wrong with it. I love the shirt and sweater together, they are perfect for warm fall days.

Army green. I had been looking for a few weeks for a skinny jean for fall in army green. Although camo and military inspiration are everywhere this fall, I wanted something more versatile than camo skinnies, but more unexpected then just jeans. Enter these chic and comfy pants from Old Navy's Rockstar line. The zipper details are amazing and I am sure they will be on repeat quite a lot this fall.

I have been waiting for the perfect outfit to debut my leopard heels with. After seeing them on Instagram and several blogs, I ran out to Target and bought them immediately, but they have been waiting for weeks in my closet as the weather decided whether or not if actually wanted to be fall yet or not. Finally I feel they can emerge from my closet, and I am happy they out!

The pave link bracelet far exceeded my expectations, the pave crystals are gorgeous and the fit is perfection. I received it from the ladies at Hawthorne Collection and am incredibly grateful for it. Hawthorne Collection is an online boutique based out of my home state of Michigan, which creates designer inspired pieces at affordable prices. They are the sweetest girls and have the best quality, I highly recommend you check them out!

Well there you have it, my first outfit post! So terrifying, yet exciting, at the same time. I am starting to develop a grove for this whole blogging thing (maybe?), or at least I am optimistic I am. Thanks for sticking with me as I begin to navigate my way into the world of outfit posts!

How would you style this sequined polka dot sweater?
What are you most looking forward to wearing this fall?

Old Navy Cash

I don't know about you, but Old Navy has been stealing my heart, and subsequently my cash, season after season. I went a little crazy a few weekends ago when they had their $15 off every $50 you spend promotion, and picked up quite a few goodies. However, my store had not received much of their fall inventory, cue critter sweaters, military jackets, suede flats, and jeweled crew sweaters. Having seen these items online, I was crushed that I could not get the instant gratification of picking them up during the sale. Just as I was about to have a (tiny, I swear) pity party over this grave injustice minor hiccup, I received Old Navy cash for my purchases during this sale and just like that my faith in Old Navy was restored!

So over the weekend, I created a list of things I "need" to complete my fall wardrobe, and have assembled the following list of items I plan to pick up this weekend when my Old Navy cash goes live. Many items can be layered with other pre-fall purchases I have made, some are trends I am excited to try, and others replace items I have loved, sadly, to death. Keep in mind that I have (4) $20 off $50 cash coupons, a $50 giftcard, and $20 in rewards, that I will be using to minimize the pinch on my wallet.

Falling for Old Navy
