Back to School

This is only the second year where the end of August hasn't ushered in the beginning of school for me, but that doesn't mean I'm not taking advantage of all the wonderful sales and new lines of clothing out in preparation for all those who are. Moving into September not only signals a seasonal transition from summer to fall and from vacation to school, but also a change in my closet. We all know what I am getting at - the colors, the textures, the types of pieces in your wardrobe slowly change to prepare for shorter, cooler days.

There's something in the air about students heading back to class, from the blank pages in their notebooks to the new bags over their shoulders, that seems to indicate its a season for change and fresh starts. Or at least that is how I shall justify my obsessive desire to reinvent my wardrobe as soon as September 1st hits (and maybe a little before!).

I always seem to fall in love with more new pieces during this time of year than any other, so I am always on the look out for a bargain. I have been playing the 'cart game' with many of the pieces above (you know the one where you load up your online shopping cart and pretend you can buy everything you want and then close your browser with your bank account in tact) just waiting for a good sale so I could gleefully log-in and finally check my cart out. And that is definitely what I did with this beauty, that plaid, and this dress (and maybe a few more...oops). Stripes, Colored Tights, & More Stripes

Happy Monday lovelies! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Today I am sharing a look inspired by my incredibly cute tutu mug from the Alice & Olivia collection at Starbucks. We are very match-y with our striped dresses. I added these green tights (I've also worn it with burgundy tights) to add a punch of color to an otherwise neutral outfit. This draped cardigan is one of my long time favorites (inspired to be worn by the #2014closetremixchallenge), while the tights and booties are more recent pieces. It's crazy how an "old" item can seem new again by pairing it with trendier pieces! I'm also carrying my school bag, making this a very true-to-life outfit I would be seen in everyday. Throwback Thursday: Sing the Blues

Only one more day until Friday and, per usual, I am beyond psyched! As I have waxed poetic about on here before, I am a girl who lives for the weekends and with the avalanche of freezing precipitation this week, I am a little more anxious than usual to hole up in my apartment for a few days. Until then however its work, school, and probably more snow, yippee ;-) Given the relentless winter, I am once again excited to share a throw back post to when the grass was not just green, but actually visible. Here is another layered outfit from this past fall, and shows another one of the many ways I have styled another piece from Mint Sugar Boutique, their Iced Tassel Necklace (see this post for coupon code for 15% off your entire order!). This outfit is also pretty monochromatic in nature, which is a change of pace from my normal kaleidoscope of colors present in my outfits. One of the easiest way to mix patterns successfully is to do it within a single color family, or between naturals and a color. Here I have mixed patterns within the blue family as well as with a neutral, ie. leopard. How do you mix prints?

Throwback Thursday: Fall Plaid & Stripes

Happy Thursday loves! This week I cleaned-up my hard drive to make room for this semester and this year in general. Sorting through my photos, I realized I have a few outfit from the fall that never made it to the blog. In order to rectify this great tragedy, I thought I would do a short segments of "throwback" looks for the next few Thursday's in honor of #tbt. Plus, with all the relentless cold, it's nice to take a moment and remember when you could leave the house without looking like a marshmallow and not die of frostbite. Today, I decided to first share what turned out to be basically what I lived in this fall; leggings, boots, sweater, vest, accessorize, repeat. To keep this "uniform" (also discussed here) fresh throughout the fall, I tried to mix it up with unexpected colors, prints, textures, and an extra layer for dimension here and there.
